Summer Opportunties

There are some great opportunities for learning to serve or growing in your faith this summer. For example:

Candidates and sponsors, please be at Sacred Heart by 6:00pm on Thursday.

Both nights, candidates and sponsors will meet in the Library (downstairs in the Parish Hall).

Novena to the Holy Spirit

The Catholic tradition of praying a novena--a series of prayers over nine days for a specific intention--originates from the nine days between Ascension and Pentecost, when the disciples prayed for the coming of the Holy Spirit. It is entirely appropriate, therefore, that we pray a novena to the Holy Spirit to prepare us for receiving the Holy Spirit sacramentally in Confirmation.

We won't be gathered together each of the nine days before Confirmation, but we can still join our prayers. Beginning on Wednesday, May 20th, please pray the following prayer each day. We will pray the novena together before our rehearsal on the 27th and before the Confirmation Mass on the 28th.

Novena to the Holy Spirit

Dearest Holy Spirit, confiding in Your deep, personal love for me, I am making this novena for the following request, if it be Your Holy Will to grant it:

Prepare my mind, my soul, my heart and my body to recieve you in the Holy Sacrament of Confirmation.

Teach me, Divine Spirit, to know and seek my last end; grant me the holy fear of God; grant me true contrition and patience. Do not let me fall into sin. Give me an increase of faith, hope and charity, and bring forth in my soul all the virtues proper to my state in life.

Make me a faithful disciple of Jesus and an obedient child of the Church. Give me efficacious grace sufficient to keep the Commandments and to receive the Sacraments worthily. Give me the four Cardinal Virtues, Your Seven Gifts, Your Twelve Fruits. Raise me to perfection in the state of life to which You have called me and lead me through a happy death to everlasting life. I ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Night VIII: The Sacrament of Confirmation

For our final Wednesday night class, May 6, Fr. Scott Connolly will be teaching about the Sacrament of Confirmation, focusing on the liturgy for Confirmation, which we will celebrate May 1.
